Cherry Term 4

Sunny's Baptism

This afternoon, we had the pleasure of visiting the Church to attend the baptism of Sunny the Meerkat.  His proud parents; Katie and Archie and his chosen Godparents; Elliot, Grace, Raymond and Sophia had key parts in the ceremony and have made their promises to Sunny. A special thank you to Hannah for her beautiful reading. We learned about the  process of a baptism, as well as the key message and symbols. Sunny has now been welcomed into the world and into the Christian church. Congratulations Sunny!

Science Week

Monday

Cherry class spent the afternoon exploring all sorts of everyday materials

They planned their own experiments and made observations.

Tuesday

Cherry class pretended to be birds flying overhead looking for worms.

We discovered a lot about camouflage.

Wednesday

Cherry class spent the morning investigating the uses and properties of different materials. We really enjoyed the science fair and we made posters of what we learnt when we got back to class.

Thursday

Miss Hooper gave us a fantastic dry ice presentation and then Cherry class had great fun investigating reversible and irreversible changes!

Friday

We finished the week with our 'Change For Life' day. We had a great morning of assault course challenges and smoothie making and spent some time in the afternoon thinking about how we could be food smart! We thought of some changes we could make to our diet and lifestyle to make us more healthy.

Lambing

What another exciting day for Cherry Class! We visited Hadlow College for a talk and a walk around the sheep pen. We saw lots of adorable new-born lambs and their mothers. We asked lots of super questions and learnt lots from our helpful guide. We are so glad that we went, we just wish we could have taken the lovely little lambs home! :)

Leeds Castle

What a wonderful day we have had at Leeds Castle! We all made our Teachers and helpers incredibly proud with our lovely manners and super behaviour. The staff at Leeds Castle commented on what a pleasure we were! We began by acting out the story of the Swan Princess in the castle grounds and then we enjoyed a guided tour of the castle. We learnt so much about the castle features and the royalty that have previously lived in there. After lunch we attempted the maze and spent some time in the adventure playground. We finished the day with a trip to the gift shop. What a fantastic day!

Book Week

Monday

Book Week has officially started :) Today we did lots of exciting things in class. We added our part to the whole school story 'The Strangest Zoo in the World!', we explored new stories inside and outside the classroom and we completed DEAR, (Drop Everything and Read!) which meant that when the bell rang, we did exactly that. Our favourite part of the day, however, had to be reading to Dillon the Dog! He loved our stories and we loved reading to him. It was very special!

Tuesday

Writing competition day! We began the day with a super assembly, where we had to answer a character quiz question. When we answered the question correctly (YAY!) we were given a title, character and prop to base our stories around. We were given the title 'Poppy's Great Escape', a pack of sausages as our prop and a photo of the main character.... Miss Chapman's pet dog, Poppy the Sausage Dog! We loved writing our animal adventure stories and can't wait to find out who has won the prize on Thursday :)

During our writing competition, it was that time again, to drop everything and read!

Wednesday

Today we explored our key Author for this week, Anthony Browne, and looked at his wonderful story, 'Little Beauty', which is the story of a very special friendship between a huge Gorilla and a tiny kitten. We made clay models of the characters and then used them to retell the story to the rest of the class.

Costume Winners: Katie A and Max Bo

We then continued the day looking at The Enormous Crocodile - a favourite of Mrs Snow’s! The children enjoyed creating ‘Beware of the Crocodile’ posters to warn of the dangerous crocodile on the look-out for juicy children for lunch.

This afternoon we enjoyed a story in the art installation in the hall then did some paired reading with children from Maple Class which was a great success. We finished the day with the last chapters of our story in the Reading Safari. What a busy but fantastic week!
