Today we had a fire saftey talk, we learnt all about how to stay safe. We learnt about testing our fire alarms once per week, keeping safe around matches and lighters, when to call 999, when to stop, drop and roll and all about having an escape plan in case of a fire in your home.
Change for life day
Oak class have been lucky enough to enjoy a fabulous Change for life day today! We spent the morning talking about healthy eating and diet, discussing the different food types and why they are all important for our bodies. We then made some yummy smoothies ensuring we mixed fruit and vegetables together! The favourite one was banana, carrots, pineapple, milk and lots of ice!
All of Oak class were successful in walking/running a mile this morning, everyone enjoyed it and said they would like to do it every week! During PE we have been been testing different breath rates and how exercise gets our heart beating faster. It has been a fantastic day and the children have been stars all day!
Dry Ice Magic
Yesterday we had fun creating magic with the mysterious dry ice! Miss Hooper froze a daffodil and crushed it in a matter of seconds. We loved it!
Today we were visited by Nina the dentist she taught us about how to look after our teeth, what foods we should and shouldn't eat and how to brush our teeth.
We learnt about a chemical reaction with popping candy and coke today. We learnt that when the popping candy and coke mix together they cause a reaction. Gas is released and it blows up the balloon!
Today we visited the Science fair which was run by the year 6 children. There were so many experiments to do! Take a look at our pictures!
The children had a special Science homework set to find different Science activities in their homes. The children shared what they had found out with the rest of the class.
Today we have learnt about the different types of rock, igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. We learnt about how these rocks are created and we investigated them. We were able to hold and observe the rocks to make comments.
This morning we visited Hadlow College and their fantastic collection of animals. We saw a tarantula, some sheep, lambs, llamas, snakes, lizards, fish and we even saw Hattie the pig! The children had a lovely time looking at the different habitats of the animals and were finding out all about how they are looked after.
This week is Science week and it's gone off with a bang!
First Mr Rule and Miss Hooper made me an omelet and ice cream in just 10 minutes using some clever Scientific tricks!
This afternoon we all had fun creating our own Science experiments with a variety of random objects, we and the class got very messy!

We have learnt all about how the people from the Stone Age would communicate using pictures and symbols. So we created our own Stone Age paintings using similar colours and techniques they would've used! (Well we asked the children to lay on the floor and draw... 😀)
We have been finding the perimeter of different shapes and we have been adding decimal amounts as well!
Handwriting and Spelling
We have been learning contractions and we have also been learning cursive handwriting. We practised our spelling and handwriting outside in the sun!
We have been learning about Stonehenge, how it was built and some interesting facts. We made our very own Stonehenge out of plasticine.
The Big Book Swap
World Book Day 2017
We helped the arts leaders create a whole school big build and we made some cushions out of newspaper, some Pom poms and some wallpaper for the 3 bears cottage!
Today we visited Hadlow library and chose some books to explore. We really enjoy the library!
This week is book week and it's packed with fun activities!
We have started the week by doing some readers theatre, which involves the children learning the book by heart!

Welcome back to Term 4
This week we have written some fantastic letters to Ron's family all about our time at Hogwarts. In Maths we have been naming and drawing various 2D shapes and have been learning about parallel lines. We have started out new topic on the Stone Age and we have already learnt some information about how we could survive if we were alive over 3 million years ago.
