There was much excitement today with the arrival of five mackerel. We picked them up, looked inside the cut along the belly, poked the eyes and looked in their mouths. After this close scrutiny, we made careful observational drawings. Later, we drew and labelled another drawing in our Science books. We compared the body parts of a fish with a human.
Week Three- Maths Week
We had a challenge to complete. Make a tunnel only made of paper (and a little sellotape) and get the whole class to crawl through it! We made triangles of paper after we found out that triangles are a strong shape and we had success!
As part of our Science Maths day, we made a sun dial and chalked the shadow every hour starting at 8.30a.m. We were excellent at predicting and explaining what was happening. We also talked about the number of hours of daylight in each season.
Using our Maths language and measuring skills we made pop-up cards.
The Maths trail was so much fun. Each time we solved a clue we collected a letter. When we collected all four, we found the letters spelt ‘cube’. Our last challenge was to build the cube using Lego. We tried building other 3D shapes too.
What an amazing day we had at Bedgebury Pinetum. The first picture shows three defenders of an orchid- that flower was safe from trampling feet! In the forest, we learnt the names of some trees and carried out some activities. We had magical listening stones; we whispered to them and then listened carefully to the forest sounds. We heard birds singing, leaves rustling, wind blowing and someone thought they heard a lion roar! After lunch the adventure playground was fantastic and we we were extremely brave and adventurous. The journey home sent some of us to sleep.
Here we are data collecting, we looked for different kinds of minibeasts and recorded our class totals.
Today, we sorted shapes into a Venn Diagram by the criteria straight and curved sides before completing shape work in our Maths books.
This term, we are learning to locate countries, oceans and continents on maps and globes. Today,we made weather symbols and told the weather forecast for the United Kingdom. We could all find England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
