Home Learning Resources

Term 6:

This term we have created specific home learning tasks and challenges tailored to your child's learning gaps. It is vital that we continue to work together to ensure that your child is happy and confident with their learning and, we are filling any gaps ready for secondary school! Please see your child's Home Learning Book for their targets and challenges, set them your own target (either academic or a life skill) and then use the links below to help support their learning.



A vital life skill! Please make sure that you are reading regularly with your child; using comprehension questions throughout and asking: "what do you notice about the author's use of vocabulary, structure and punctuation?"



Great readers become great writers! Encourage your child to explore different writing techniques and strategies. Challenge your child to keep a weekend diary, write a letter to a relative, create a non-fiction project, write a spring time poem or even a short story!



Spellings will be set every week, on the Term 5 page, and will be tested every Friday. These will be a mixture of high frequency words, spelling patterns and topics specific vocabulary. Please make sure that you are encouraging you child to learn their weekly spellings in a fun, creative way (please see the documents below for further ideas).


Times Tables:

The key to so much mathematical understanding! While many children in Year 6 are fluent with their times tables we can always revisit and recap. Once your child has a thorough understanding and quick recall they can start building up new strategies eg: 7 x 4 = 28 so 7 x 0.4 = ??



Mathematical reasoning/problem solving is an area that many children can find tricky. Help your child to understand the relevant vocabulary and strategies to unpick a variety of multi-step problems. (The selection of SATs questions and workbooks below will help).


The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe:

Please help you child to learn their lines, adding expression and gestures to enhance their performance. Any help with costumes would also be appreciated, many thanks in advance!

I strongly recommend that you keep home learning session short and frequent - 10/15 minutes every day. Revisiting targets on a regular basis, with support and challenge is vital to sustained progress.
