Behaviour Blueprint

At Hadlow Primary School we have produced our own bespoke Behaviour Blueprint, which focuses on routines and positive relationships. Every member of staff in school is committed to following this behaviour blueprint to provide consistency, stability and positivity for all our pupils. The blueprint outlines three golden rules which, when followed consistently, will lead to happiness, progress and success for ALL learners. These rules are displayed in every learning environment in the school.

Happiness, Progress, Success

At Hadlow Primary School we are unconditionally committed to putting the happiness of our pupils, staff and families at the forefront of every decision that we make. We are passionate about building positive, nurturing relationships with children so that they are safe, settled and fulfilled in our care. We pride ourselves upon the smiles on our pupils’ faces.

• "Happiness is the children bursting into the classroom with a smile on their face and a story (or stories) to share!"
• "Happiness is knowing that no matter what a child is going through, they look forward to coming to school"
• "Happiness is when you see a child that is little shy, or going through a tough time, make a step forward with their confidence. They start asking questions and show a genuine care for others and the world around them."

This leads us onto progress. If the foundations of safety and happiness are in place, we believe that this will enable children to make progress in their social, emotional and academic growth.

This leads onto the final step in the journey; success. If our children are happy, they will make progress. If they make progress, this will lead to success.

Our School Values

Our British Values

It's a very exciting time at Hadlow Primary School - our School Council members have been meeting to discuss how we celebrate British Values in the school on a daily basis. We are also learning about British Values in other parts of our school day. We are working together to create a display in the main school corridor to celebrate and share British Values at Hadlow. 

All schools have a responsibility “to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

At Hadlow Primary School we promote these values in the following ways:

Democracy

Children are encouraged to become leaders and take on responsibility in a variety of areas in their own classrooms and throughout the school including; play leaders, sport and house captains which are voted for annually, alongside school council representatives for every class. Children understand the responsibilities that come with these roles and that they represent the needs and interests of their peers. Democracy is taught through the curriculum, for example through debates in English or circle time in PHSE; and is reinforced through assemblies.

The Rule of Law

The importance of Laws, whether they be those that govern the class, the school, or the country, are consistently reinforced throughout regular school days, as well as when dealing with behaviour and through school assemblies. Children know what is expected of them, why rules are so important, and what the consequences are if they do not follow them. All classes start the year with reviewing the school rules and devising their own class rules. Visits from the wider community throughout the year reinforce understanding of laws and why we have them.

Individual Liberty

At Hadlow, children learn about rights, personal responsibility, choices, ambitions and aspirations. Children are encouraged to follow their interests through a variety of extra-curricular clubs and lessons as well as representing Hadlow Primary at a variety of sporting events. Children are given the opportunity to celebrate their achievements every week in Celebration Assembly, including awards for Lunchtime Heroes. Across the school, enrichment days and weeks allow children to demonstrate independence of thought and action; in lessons, children can choose their level of challenge. Hadlow Primary is working towards the Forest School approach, which gives children the opportunity to enjoy the freedom to explore their own interests and limits in a safe environment.

Mutual Respect

Hadlow is a school which nurtures an understanding of mutual respect and where everyone demonstrates respect for themselves and others in their general conduct and care for one another. Mutual respect is promoted throughout the school, for example through assemblies, serving the local community and reading with parent helpers. Our school has respect at its core – respect for the environment, oneself and others; sessions start and end with circle time and teamwork, collaboration and personal achievement are collectively celebrated.

Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

At Hadlow, all major faiths are studied and respected through RE and tolerance of beliefs is promoted. Weekly assemblies are led by a reverend from the local church and a variety of faiths and festivals are explored during assemblies. Children at Hadlow can talk about the different faiths and cultures they learn about, ask questions and show tolerance and respect for others of different faiths and religions.

The Six Principles of Nurture

One of our school priorities is to enhance our whole school nurture provision through the Nurture UK accreditation process.

Nurture UK are an organisation dedicated to improving the social, emotional, mental health and wellbeing of children and young people.

The 6 Principles of Nurture are a set of values that we follow at school to make sure that all staff focus on the social and emotional needs and development of children and young people, ensuring all pupils are ready to learn.

The 6 Principles of Nurture that we follow are:

1. Children’s learning is understood developmentally

2. The classroom offers a safe base

3. The importance of nurture for the development of wellbeing

4. Language is a vital means of communication

5. All behaviour is communication

6. The importance of transitions in children’s lives

The 6 Principles of Nurture will be fully embedded in our school ethos, classes and shared learning environments and all staff are fully trained in The 6 Principles of Nurture and what that means for our school.

At Hadlow Primary School, we ask that our parents and carers are partners with us in their child’s social, emotional, behavioural and/or mental health journey and we all work together consistently to support our young people throughout their time with us.
