Learning Beyond the Classroom

We recognise that some of the most memorable and meaningful learning takes place beyond the classroom. That is why every class participates in six educational visits each year, providing a carefully planned programme of experiences throughout a child's time at Hadlow.

Our village setting is an important part of our school identity, but we are equally passionate about ensuring that our children have opportunities to look beyond their immediate surroundings and experience the wider world.

Children visit a diverse range of places, including London, the beach, museums, historical sites, places of religious and cultural significance, scientific and environmental locations, and areas within our local community. These experiences are purposefully linked to our curriculum, particularly Science, Geography, History and Religious Education, enabling children to make connections between what they learn in school and the world around them.

Whether investigating habitats at the coast, exploring the science of the natural world, walking in the footsteps of people from the past or experiencing different places, communities and cultures, our educational visits help to make learning relevant, memorable and meaningful.

Building Cultural Capital

We are ambitious for every child, regardless of their background or starting point. Our enrichment programme is designed to broaden horizons and ensure that all pupils have access to a rich variety of experiences.

Through visits, visitors and enrichment opportunities, children encounter new places, people, professions, cultures, beliefs and ideas. These experiences deliberately build pupils' cultural capital, deepen their understanding of the world and provide them with the knowledge, confidence and experiences they need to participate fully in their community and wider society.

Our Enrichment Passport

Every child at Hadlow has an Enrichment Passport, which travels with them through their school journey and provides a record of the many experiences and adventures they encounter.

The passport enables children to celebrate their achievements, reflect on new experiences and recognise how much they have discovered beyond their everyday classroom learning. It also helps us to ensure that enrichment is purposeful and progressive, with children's experiences building as they move through the school.

Bringing the Wider World into Hadlow

Personal development does not only happen when children leave the school site. We pride ourselves on providing a wealth of opportunities within school too.

Throughout the year, we welcome guest speakers, professionals, community members, specialists and visitors who share their knowledge, experiences and expertise with our children. Alongside workshops, themed events and enrichment activities, these encounters expose pupils to different perspectives and possibilities, raise aspirations and encourage them to ask questions about the world around them.

Ultimately, our approach to personal development is about opening doors. We want every child to understand that the world is full of possibilities and that their experiences, interests and aspirations need not be limited by where they live or what they have previously encountered.
